Olympus specializes in the manufacture and sale of industrial Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) products for the inspection of difficult to access areas.  RVI equipment is used daily in a variety of industries to save both time and money for the user.  The diverse Olympus Industrial product range is designed to withstand the rigors of most industrial inspection environments.

Flexible instruments are required in applications where the route to the inspection area includes negotiating bends.  A wide range of flexible instruments is available, with diameters from 0.6mm to 11mm (0.02" to 0.43") and lengths up to 19m (62’).  When a flexible instrument is required the inspector has a choice of a videoscope or fiberscope.

Videoscopes, such as the Olympus
IPLEX II-R system, use the very latest in optical and digital technology, and are rapidly becoming the instruments of choice for most applications.  The image is obtained via precision Olympus lenses and a high resolution color CCD camera in the objective end of the instrument, ensuring the highest quality, brightest images available.  Illumination is provided by an integral high-intensity light source, through a non-coherent fiber bundle to the tip of the instrument.
Movie and still image capture is also increasingly demanded for post-inspection analysis and report writing.  The IPLEX Manager software provides a platform for effective image management and measurement, includes a report writing module, and also offers the ability to remotely control the IPLEX system.

Fiberscopes are flexible instruments that use a coherent fiber bundle to transmit an image back to the inspector’s eye.  A separate non-coherent fiber bundle is used for transferring the illumination from the light source to the inspection area.  Fiberscopes can also be attached to CCTV and digital imaging equipment so that movie or still images can be recorded for future reference or used in associated documentation.

Borescopes are the ideal choice when straight-line access to the area of interest is available.  These rigid instruments use an optical lens system to transmit an image from the inspection area back to the eye and a non-coherent fibre bundle to illuminate the object.  They are available in a range of diameters from 0.9mm to 16mm (0.04" to 0.63") and working lengths up to 1.5m (4.8’).  Their ease of use ensures a straightforward inspection solution with minimum set-up.

Light Sources are used to illuminate the inspection area.  These external units provide illumination which is transmitted to the viewing instrument by a light guide cable, and then through the scope via the integral fiber bundle to the viewing tip.  A range of light sources with different lamp types and power requirements is available to suit a wide variety of working environments.

A number of accessories and complementary products are available, including the Engine Turning Tool system.  For use with a large range of gas turbine engines, the turning tool allows for automation of engine rotation while undertaking the inspection with an endoscope.  Traditionally two inspectors would be required to simultaneously inspect and rotate the engine, so adoption of the Electronic Turning Tool has demonstrated significant time and cost savings throughout the industry.

Other accessory products available are:
CCTV and image recording equipment is increasingly used with endoscopes to allow images to be displayed on a video monitor and recorded for further analysis and archiving.  This also allows for group viewing of inspection images, saving time, user fatigue and improving the decision making process.
In addition to RVI products, the Olympus Industrial product range also includes Specialist Security Products for use within search and surveillance roles, which are used independently or complementary to standard RVI products.
Intellectual Property
Many features of Olympus industrial videoscopes, fiberscopes, borescopes and ancillary products are protected by patents in the major industrial countries of the world.
